Sea to Sky trip

posted May 8, 2013, 10:21 AM by IYC Executive Director
Hey everybody!
An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Inuvik Youth Centre. This summer we're planning on taking 15 youth between the ages of 13 and 25 to Vancouver, Whistler and Squamish.

This trip has three learning objectives:
University tours, which will introduce youth to dorm living, support services available to Aboriginal and Inuit youth and life skills such as using mass transportation;
- Cultural exchanges with four different West Coast First Nations, which will foster connections and relationships between BC and the NWT, allow the youth to share aspects of Gwich’in, Metis and Inuvialuit culture and educate youth on the realities of reserve living;
- Adventure-based learning, which will help the youth develop communication skills, foster leadership abilities, encourage teamwork, show youth they can overcome their fears and allow them to have fun.

We are looking for youth between the ages of 13 and 17 to participate and youth between the ages of 18 and 25 to act a leaders. Youth will be expected to attend once-weekly meetings on Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 to help plan the trip and fundraisers.

If you would like to participate or donate to this incredible opportunty for Inuvik youth, then please contact us at 777-4992, drop by 93 Gwich'in Road or email at coordinator@inuvikyouthcentre.ca.

Thanks and we'll keep you updated on our progress!
